Mary Jane Keathley
Charleston is an intriguing place, full of mystery and grace with a rainbow of color and charm that drew me in from the very first, lets just say, a long time ago — because everyone knows a true southern lady never really reveals her age.
Mary Jane Keathley and although not a native, she is as close as you get –a Carolina girl. High school in Asheville, college in Columbia (USC) and that’s where she began a long career as a journalist that took her to Washington, DC, New York and Europe before finally bringing her home to Charleston. As a journalist, she loved telling the stories of the people she met, the places she has seen and that just naturally led her into the world of a tour guide — a licensed Historic Charleston Tour Guide for SpiritLine Cruises.
It’s a parallel career with a passion for music that lets her also be a choir choral conductor. Her choir has had the opportunity to sing from Carnegie Hall in New York to Sydney, Australia’s beautiful Opera House.
So, you see, she is still taking tours as well as giving them and she knows the stories you want to hear. Come take a tour with Mary Jane and she will spin a tale of wonder that spans more than 350 years — from the Kiawah Indians standing on the sandy shore welcoming the first settlers through the smoke of revolution and civil war, to the glistening strands of a Gershwin tune singing about easy living in the summertime in Charleston.
Charleston native Franke Wilson enjoyed a career as a classical pianist and teacher while living around the world with her Air Force family. Settling back home in Charleston, Franke has been a Tour Guide since 1990, using all of her travel experiences to enrich and deepen her love of the Holy City and sharing it’s vibrant story with Charleston’s many visitors.
